KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will among others be able to do the following

  • On air presentation/continuity, news and acting on feedback from listeners.
  • Research, plan and develop on air content, ideas and concepts in line with the station strategy and values
  • Research on current good gospel music that is appealing to the audience.
  • Work at odd hours especially early mornings(dawn)
  • Handle gospel/Christian shows assigned
  • Inspire audience in the gospel related shows
  • Thoroughly understands and relates with the typical MUUGA FM listener
  • Write broadcasting reports and execute commercial logs
  • Sit in for any other shows whenever need be.
  • Music research – identifies, propose and source music to be incorporated into the station sound.
  • Carry out outside broadcasting/Road shows and attend functions on behalf of the station.
  • Receiving briefs from clients/ sales/ supervisor and executing accordingly.
  • Scripting, recording, packaging and producing station features
  • Creatively create and execute on air gaming elements
  • Cross-promote the company’s online & traditional product lines
  • Conceptualize and execute online campaigns for various projects
  • Update all station social media platforms regularly
  • Liaise with digital sales officers to create campaigns that can be commercialized

Skills and Personal attribute

  • Fluent in spoken and written Meru language.
  • Can translate English and Swahili scripts to Meru correctly.
  • Has a strong radio voice & personality as well as an ear for music.
  • Able to work odd hours including weekends and holidays without supervision.
  • Must be a team player and respectful to collegues
  • Must be a person of integrity and a good ambassador to the station
  • Must be social media savvy, innovative and creative
  • Have an understanding of Media Law and Ethics

Academic and professional experience

  • A university degree or Diploma in journalism / mass communication or another related field from a recognized university.
  • At least 3 years experience as a Presenter /newsreader/reporter/subeditor in a reputable radio station.
  • Must be social media savvy, innovative and creative

  • Host and handle youth shows and youth related matters related to the station with ease

Key roles & responsibilities

  • Generating ideas for news stories and news features
  • Following leads from news agencies, the police, the public, press conferences and other sources;
  • Generating ideas to head of desks , editors and producers;
  • Researching and compiling relevant information to support a story using credible information sources such as the internet, archives, databases, etc.;
  • Writing scripts for bulletins, headlines and special reports;
  • Exercising judgment on the best story angle;
  • Using portable digital audio recorders and other equipment to record material and appropriate editing software to produce complete packages for broadcast;
  • Preparing material for both pre-recorded and live pieces;
  • Filling stories from the respective county
  • Developing and maintaining useful contacts and relations with news sources;
  • Understanding and complying with media law and industry codes of conduct.

Academic and professional/work Experience

  • Degree/Diploma in journalism, mass communications or any other related field
  • At least one year relevant experience as a reporter / correspondent in a busy media house.

Essential Competences

  • Excellent written and spoken Kimeru , English and Swahili (Attach – Kimeru, English and Swahili demo in mp3 format)

BUSINESS REPORTER- RADIO

Royal Media Services Limited is seeking to recruit a highly qualified individual for the above position. The job holder will be responsible for gathering and packaging radio business news. He/she will provide business news stories, features and other news related content to strengthen the Company’s programming, editorial and digital platforms.

The Business reporter’s role will include the following:-

  • Generate business stories for all Royal Media Service radio stations.
  • Monitor business news-based content & feedback on social media
  • Guide county correspondents on what to cover and how to package their items
  • Compile business news items from correspondents
  • Generate business news feature stories
  • Ensure quality and timely business news content on radio and online
  • Translate/transcribe script and audio as required
  • Ensure adherence to highest level of integrity

Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Impeccable command of English and Kiswahili

  • Competent editing skills using Cool edit, Adobe Audition software or equivalent

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Royal Media Services Limited wishes to recruit a suitably qualified person for the above position. The holder of this position will be charged with production of creative and innovative graphic designs and animated products for production, marketing, sales, digital and Editorial purposes.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The successful candidate will among others be able to do the following;
  • Provide creative graphics solutions to meet the needs of various departments.
  • Conceptualize, design and creatively package Station’s live-on- air or recorded properties
  • Conceptualize, design and creatively package commercials, marketing promos, adverts and editorial products to enhance bulletins
  • Confer and liaise with business executives and commercial producers to ensure efficient and timely execution of clients’ briefs
  • Create 2D and 3D model animations and execute as briefed
  • Contribute to team effort to ensure tasks are completed on time
  • Ensure the station’s look and feel is protected by adhering to approved designs, fonts, colors, layouts and settings.
  • Design and produce graphics for live on air or taped programs as requested by news producers, programme producers and transmission controllers
  • Source, select and reproduce library music to go with designed properties
  • Suggest ways of improving the look and feel of different properties and shows
  • Provide creative graphics solutions to meet the needs of various departments.
  • Preparing rough drafts of materials based on agreed brief.
  • Determining size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, and font style and size.
  • Reviewing final layouts and suggesting improvements if required.
  • Thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts and developing interactive design.
  • Advice clients on strategies to reach a particular audience.

Skills and Personal attribute

  • Conversant with broadcast graphics design, editing and animation software including After effects, 3D studio max, Cinema 4D, 3D Maya, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe illustrator, Adobe Premier or Final cut.
  • Ability and willingness to train in station’s live-on-air systems including Wasp3D, Viz RT among others.
  • Be very creative and innovative despite working under pressure and long hours
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and keep strict deadlines
  • A team player, patient, active listener and a problem solver
  • Passionate about motion graphics design and its related tasks
  • Good audio and video editing skills
  • Follow-up of assignments till completion and a clear focus on results and seamless delivery
  • Ability to understand, read and write in English, Kiswahili and/or Kikuyu

Academic and professional experience

  • Degree or diploma in graphics design.
  • Working experience at a broadcasting house will be an added advantage.
  • Hands-on experience for at least two year on the above software
