Waihiga Mwaura is a 4-time award winning Kenyan journalist, news-anchor and moderator. He is the first male winner of the prestigious BBC World News 2018 Komla Dumor award, 2015 winner of the Mo Amin Africa award and 2012 winner of the CNN Multi-choice Africa award. He was recently awarded the 2019 UBA award by the Kenya Christian Professionals Forum for his contribution to the media. He is also a 3-time Media Council of Kenya awards nominee (2015-2017) and was recognized in a list of top 10 Kenyan journalists of 2019.
Currently he hosts one of the leading prime-time political TV shows on Citizen TV, Newsnight and also produces investigative stories for the special projects desk.
He has moderated panel discussions on varied topics in Nairobi, Lagos and London for Citizen TV, the London School of Economics, World Bank, BBC amongst other institutions. Waihiga is also a keynote speaker with nuanced understanding of the African media scene and in July 2019 gave a presentation for Chatham House in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He also writes for Citizen TV and for the BBC. Over the last 10 years he has reported from Kenya, Nigeria, Togo, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda.
Career interests include governance, global politics, public policy, international relations and youth employment. He believes that Africa needs more investigative journalism balanced with solutions-focused journalism so as to prosper.
